Both hands have two cards to start with. Then the cards are added together to get the total. If it has a 3 and a 4, then the total is 7. A 5 and a king together will be worth 5.
However, the maximum number of baccarat hands allowed is 9. If the total exceeds this number, then only the right-hand side numbers are used. So, for example, if the hand has 9 and 6, the total number of points is 15, but the hand only counts as 5. The same applies if it exceeds 20. This means that 9, 6 and 9 together will count as 4. When do I need a third card?
There are different rules when the Player hand and the Dealer hand need to draw a third card and add it to it. If we start with a player’s hand, if the initial baccarat values on the first two cards add up to anything between 0 and 5, it gets a third card, unless the dealer’s hand totals 8 or 9. If the player’s hand is larger than 5, they no longer receive cards.
The Banker’s rule is a bit more complicated. The dealer follows the same rules and holds a hand of 6 or more if the player’s hand is worth 6 or more.
However, if a player draws a third card, the dealer’s hand must follow the following rules.
- When the dealer has a 2 or lower, they get a third card
- When they have a total of 3, they get a third card, unless the third card drawn for the player is an 8.
- If the additional card given to the player is between 2 and 7 (including these numbers), then a third card is required
- When the dealer’s total is 5, a third card is dealt where the player’s extra card is 4, 5, 6 or 7
- If the player’s additional card is a 6 or 7, only the third card is dealt to the dealer.
- When the dealer’s initial hand has a 7, they stand on this total
What is the best card in Baccarat?
Given that 9 is the winning number in Baccarat, this is probably the best hand. However, one hand only needs to be closer to a 9 than the other to win. It does not matter how many points a hand wins, because any winning baccarat hand is worth the same.
This is a game of chance where you simply choose which hand you think will win, or whether you predict a draw. After that, you just have to wait and see which hand is close to the nines.
